Hi All,
Here we are at the 5200 foot level. It is snow covered and we are in Montana. They are calling for snow again tonight... only another 3 inches or so. Hard to believe it is almost Mid June, I wonder if summer ever happens here.
We left the Badlands National park and headed out to Montana. We have been riding the ridge all around Yellowstone Park most of the afternoon. From the East Entrance to the North side of the park. We went from the deep valley of the Badlands to the entrance to the Rocky Mountains. What a day this has been.
The temperature went from 70 degrees at 9 this morning to 45 degrees at 5 this evening. I am not sure, but, I was really thinking that Ski season was over and it was time for all the spring time things to be happening. Up here even the Red Robins are holding on to their eggs for another week or so, got to keep them eggs safe.
The open range was really neat, we have gone over the Yellowstone River several times today. That is just the way we are winding our way back up to the Northwest.
The grasslands were wonderful with all the greens. The green went from a blue green to an olive green. It was just a rainbow of colors and there were free range cattle, horses and even some Antelope just out enjoying the day and grazing at the open fields. The cattle were Golden brown, Black, Black and White and then the marriage of all the colors across the board. We had to stop at one point on a back road and let a turtle cross in front of us. They really do not move fast. But, it made for some interesting conversation and the pups wanted to go out and meet the turtle. LOL
Dinner is ready so I need to wrap this up, once again, we sure do hope you enjoy the pictures. We did have fun taking them.
The Badlands meet the Grasslands -- This was a neat view of how the drop off went to allow the grasslands to develop and change the landscape.
The Yellowstone River -- Seems to just get bigger as we go, growing with each possible turn and merge of the smaller streams.
Finally, the small Town of Red Rose and the significance this has in history in relation to Little Big Horn and General Custer.
Take care,
Don, Karol and the kids.
